It was a real pleasure to meet so many of you last night, but a disappointment not to have had more time to talk about the math program here at Calvert. Those of you whose older children have passed through the school will be very familiar with the school's philosophy and expectations as well as the systems that we tend to utilize for communication.
I thought I should post the most important parts of last night's class information for those sessions that were rushed and incomplete or for those of you who were unable to attend. So here goes!

I recommend that students access their textbook and where applicable the textbook's student page from the links on this blog and mark them as a Favorite. I believe that they can also access the texts via My Calvert.

Geometry Construction
Geometry has always held a fascination for me, in particular the drawing of geometric shapes. I wish that sites like this one had been available when I was learning the subject.

Geometry
We are about to launch into a series of chapter that relate to linear, 2-D, and 3-D geometry. We'll started by reminding the students how to use a protractor accurately. These 2 online activities are both fun and informative.

The Sixth Grade Take Charge!
As part of their studies in math, my sixth grade class have been involved in an interesting project. Not only did they have to re-write part of the textbook, but now each one of them has to deliver their lesson to the rest of the group. So far they have done a great job of preparing themselves for waht some see as quite an ordeal! You can judge for yourself in the attached video. Check back to see how well the others do.
